Southwest Airlines has announced its first-ever transpacific route, with nonstop service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Tokyo Narita beginning October 2026. The route marks a historic expansion for the carrier, which has traditionally focused on domestic and short-haul international flights.

The service will operate four times weekly using newly acquired Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, with introductory round-trip fares starting at $599. Southwest's trademark policies—including two free checked bags, no change fees, and complimentary snacks—will apply to the international route.
