The Transportation Security Administration has expanded its PreCheck enrollment program to 500 new locations, bringing the total to over 1,200 enrollment centers nationwide. The expansion targets underserved areas including rural communities and smaller metropolitan regions that previously required long drives to reach an enrollment site.
PreCheck membership, which costs $78 for five years, allows travelers to use expedited security lanes at over 200 airports. Members keep their shoes, belts, and light jackets on and can leave laptops and compliant liquids in their bags during screening.
TSA reports that PreCheck members waited an average of under 5 minutes during the past year, compared to 25 minutes in standard screening lanes during peak travel periods. The agency is also piloting a fully digital enrollment process that eliminates the need for in-person visits at select locations.
