Travel industry authority Skift Research has named Portugal's Alentejo region as the top emerging destination for 2026, citing its combination of unspoiled coastline, world-class wineries, and dramatically lower prices compared to the Algarve and Lisbon.

The Alentejo stretches from Lisbon south to the Algarve and east to the Spanish border, offering rolling cork oak landscapes, medieval villages, and a coastline protected from overdevelopment by strict planning regulations.

Hotels and guesthouses in the region average $120 to $200 per night, roughly half the cost of equivalent properties in the Algarve. The region's wine scene has also attracted international attention, with several estates now producing wines rated above 95 points by major critics.
