The Transportation Security Administration announced today that TSA PreCheck enrollment has surpassed 20 million active members, a record that has helped push average screening wait times below five minutes at major US airports.
The surge in enrollment follows the TSA's decision last year to reduce the application fee from $85 to $50 and extend membership renewal periods from five to seven years. Online renewal now takes less than five minutes and eliminates the need for an in-person visit.
Travelers can further expedite enrollment through the TSA PreCheck mobile app, which offers biometric verification and instant approval for applicants with no disqualifying criminal history. The program now covers over 200 airlines and 200 airports nationwide.
