The Transportation Security Administration has launched a fully online renewal process for TSA PreCheck that eliminates the need for in-person visits. Eligible travelers can now renew their five-year membership entirely through the TSA website with instant approval in most cases.
The new system uses facial recognition technology to verify identity, matching a selfie against the applicant's passport or driver's license photo. The renewal fee remains $78 for five years, and approved travelers receive their updated Known Traveler Number immediately.
TSA reports that the online renewal system can process applications in under five minutes, compared to the previous requirement of scheduling an appointment at an enrollment center. The agency plans to extend the online-only option to new applicants by the end of 2026.
